JERSEY
Jersey was surrendered to the Saratoga
County Animal Shelter on September 23, 2008.
Jersey is a great dog - he is smart, loving, sweet and playful.
The only thing holding Jersey back from finding his forever was a large
tumor located on one of his rear legs.
Given his loving nature and otherwise excellent health when he arrived
at the shelter, there is no doubt that Jersey was loved
and cared for by his former family; it must have been very hard for
them to say goodbye to him.
His procedure and after care amounted to thousands of dollars, which is
far more than most families can afford.
Fortunately, for Jersey, (1) he ended up where he did; the Saratoga
Shelter believes every dog deserves a chance -
even one with a physical "disability" like Jersey --- HOORAY FOR THEM!!
And, (2) because of his sweet disposition, Jersey had several "guardian
angels" that were willing
to finance his surgery, which surgery resulted in the amputation of his
leg.
The tumor on Jersey's leg was a
Hemangiopericytoma tumor, which, thankfully, was benign.
Had the tumor only been removed, there would have been an 80-90% chance
of reoccurrence.
Rather than take the chance of regrowth, it was decided that the best
course of treatment was amputation of his leg.
Jersey's surgery took place on January 12, 2009. Things went
great and he was up and walking around two days after surgery.
Though he is fully recovered*, he does still have one hurdle to
overcome -- that is finding his forever home.
After his surgery, Jersey spent several weeks at a boarding facility
where there were no stairs for him to worry about climbing.
He is now being fostered by my husband and I. Jersey loves being
in a home environment and has been the perfect houseguest.
Unfortunately, our three dogs and 19-year old cat are not happy about
the current living arrangements.
Because of this, we are not sure how much longer we will be able to
foster Jersey.
PLEASE NO CATS OR SMALL CHILDREN IN HIS NEW HOME.

Jersey is an amazing boy who has overcome so much and who has an
incredible amount of love to give.
